Boots
Boots, the number one drug and beauty store in the UK, was launched with great fanfare in
Tokyo in 1998 and by 2000 had opened three stores in Aoyama, Ginza and Kichijoji.
Recently, however, the cosmetic retailing giant has fallen on hard times. Following a 12
million pound loss last financial year, Boots has decided to shut down its entire Tokyo
operation, meaning those hard-to-find aromatherapy lines, body lotions and essential oils,
many of which were released under BootsEown label, will be even tougher to find.
Luckily, some such items will be made available in selected department stores, but details
are yet to be confirmed.

Globe
Specs
Globe Specs has quickly established a reputation as one of the premium eyeglass stores in
town. In addition to chic contemporary eyewear-Hartmann Wien, Robert Marc, Morucci and the
like-the stores contain museum-quality collections of old frames and eyeglass cases. Their
homage to the classics continues with the re-release of The Spectacle range of authentic
early American eyewear. Featuring original gold and white gold frames, fitted out with
stylish pastel lenses, rare vintage models can be pricey, but the regular models go for
around JY40-JY50,000. Standout items from this spectacular range of timeless spec design
include the elegant x-bridge (JY110,000), designed in 1870, the venerable 1929 Cortland
(JY180,000), and the retro classic 1950 pilot glasses (JY75,000 in yellow gold).
