AFTER DARK

Thunderpuss

An authentic taste of the New York house scene will be on offer over at the reinvigorated
club Playa in Azabujuban when DJ/production duo Thunderpuss take to the decks on September
14.
Coming together in New York in 1995, Thunderpuss teams Chris Cox and Barry Harris, both
dance music veterans with strong remixing and DJ credentials. After a steady release of
remixes, they struck it big in 1998, reaping a Grammy award for best dance recording for
their work on disco queen Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder' "Kiss the Rain."
They followed that up with a remix of Whitney Houston's "It's Not Right But It's
OK," which spent three weeks atop the Billboard dance music charts in 1999, rescuing
Houston's career in the process.
In addition to their success with "It's Not Right But It's OK," Thunderpuss
ruled the charts with a total of six #1 dance remixes in 1999, including the Pet Shop
Boys' "New York City Boy" and "17 Again" for the Eurythmics. Their
most recent remix, Ultra Nate's "Desire," appeared in July.
Thunderpuss are also much sought after as DJs on the US club circuit, with Harris often
invited to perform as a special guest with hard house heavyweight Junior Vasquez on
Saturday nights at New York's scene-leading club Twilo.
The upcoming night at Playa will also offer a chance to hear some fresh tracks before they
hit the radio, as Thunderpuss like to test out remixes on audiences before they send them
off to record companies. "Things always sound differently in a club than they do in
the studio," Cox said in a recent interview with NAJM. "So we try to do that
whenever possible."
Providing domestic support will be veteran Tokyo house DJs Turbo and Takuya Kusajima.
